Jeju beaches at a glance
Jeju has a swim season with fixed dates. In 2026 it ran from 24 June to 6 September, longer than just July and August, and it covers 12 named beaches. Hyeopjae, Hamdeok, Woljeong and Jungmun Saekdal are among them. The plan is set with a weather reservation, so a rough sea can still close a beach on a given day.
During the season the regular swim hours are 10:00 to 19:00. That is the time to plan around, not the time a beach is open to walkers. A promenade or a sandy strip can be visited outside these hours, but the swim zone and its staff follow the season.
If you want a beach as one stop in a longer day, look at the Jeju day tours, which run along the east and southwest of the island. For the weather behind the season, see Jeju weather by month.

Beach hours in summer 2026
The extended evening hours applied from 15 July to 15 August 2026.
| Beach | Regular swim hours | Evening hours, 15 July to 15 August |
|---|---|---|
| Hyeopjae | 10:00โ19:00 | Until 21:00 |
| Iho Tewoo | 10:00โ19:00 | Until 21:00 |
| Woljeong (Woljeongri) | 10:00โ19:00 | Until 20:00 |
| Samyang | 10:00โ19:00 | Until 20:00 |
| Hamdeok | 10:00โ19:00 | โ |
| Jungmun Saekdal | 10:00โ19:00 | โ |
For most visitors, Hyeopjae is the easiest summer choice because it has the longest evening hours. If you pick Hamdeok or Jungmun Saekdal, plan to be out of the water by 19:00.

The main beaches
What sets four of the beaches in the season plan apart.
Hyeopjae
Hyeopjae stays open for swimming longest in midsummer, until 21:00 between 15 July and 15 August. The water here is turquoise. Stones and rocks sit along parts of the coast nearby.
Hamdeok
Hamdeok is a sandy beach with a green headland at one end, with palms along the shore. It follows the regular 10:00 to 19:00 hours with no evening extension, so it suits a morning or afternoon visit.
Woljeong
Woljeong, also written Woljeongri, swims until 20:00 in the extension period. Check the day's conditions before you go in, because the sea state decides whether the zone is in use.
Jungmun Saekdal
Jungmun Saekdal is part of the 2026 season plan with the regular hours. The waterfall at Cheonjeyeon is in the same Jungmun area, which makes it easy to combine. See the Jeju waterfalls page for tickets and hours.
Planning a beach day
A few steps that work on any of the 12 beaches.
Check the sea first
The season plan depends on the weather. Look at the water and the flags or signs before you change, and pick another beach if conditions are rough.
Pair it with a sight
Jungmun Saekdal goes well with Cheonjeyeon waterfall. In 2026 adult entry to the waterfall was KRW 2,500, and it opens 09:00 to 17:50 with the last entry at 17:10, depending on sunset and weather.
Know your hours
Swim hours are 10:00 to 19:00 in the regular season. Only Hyeopjae, Iho Tewoo, Woljeong and Samyang had a later close, and only between 15 July and 15 August.
Safety, rentals and the off-season
Rules that apply on any Jeju beach.
Swim only in marked zones
Use the designated swimming areas and check that lifeguards are present. Change your plans in strong wind, heavy swell or heavy rain.
Not in harbors
Do not swim or dive in harbors. Children should wear a life jacket and stay with an adult.
Sunshades and platforms
Rental fees for parasols and platforms are meant to stay unchanged for the third year, but there is no single island-wide price. Ask at the beach what a set costs before you sit down.
After 6 September
Once the season ends, do not assume lifeguards are on duty. A season end, a local closure and a beach you can simply walk along are three different things, so read the signs on site.
Showers and parking
Do not assume that showers and parking are free or priced the same everywhere. Ask at the entrance and bring a towel.
The Rhodolith beach on Udo
A different kind of sand.
On Udo, three beaches are named as destinations: Geommeolle, Hagosudong and Jeju Udo Rhodolith Beach, also called Seobinbaeksa. The so-called coral beach is made of rhodoliths, which are hardened red algae and not coral. The beach is a protected natural monument, so look and photograph, but do not collect anything. The ferry from Seongsan and the vehicle rules are on the Udo island page.
