Seongsan Ilchulbong at a glance
Seongsan Ilchulbong is a tuff cone that rises straight out of the sea on the east side of Jeju. The name is often translated as Sunrise Peak, and the cone is a famous sunrise spot on the island. You buy a ticket at the entrance, walk up to the crater rim and look back over the coast and the small town of Seongsan.
The visit itself is short, but the opening hours change with the season, and one day each month the site is closed. If you would rather not drive, Jeju east day tours combine Seongsan Ilchulbong with Manjanggul Cave and a Haenyeo performance in one day.

Seongsan Ilchulbong opening hours by season
The last ticket is sold one hour before closing.
| Months | Opening hours | Last ticket |
|---|---|---|
| March and April, September and October | 05:00โ19:00 | 18:00 |
| May to August | 04:30โ20:00 | 19:00 |
| November to February | 06:00โ18:00 | 17:00 |
The rest day is the first Monday of every month. If that Monday is a public holiday, the site closes on the following day instead. Parking at the site is free. For most visitors who want the sunrise, the plan is simple: be at the entrance when it opens and keep a second morning free in case clouds cover the horizon.

Sunrise at Seongsan Ilchulbong
The sunrise is the reason many people come, but it has limits. You can only enter during opening hours, so the first light is only available when the gate opens before the sun. In summer the site opens at 04:30. In spring and autumn it opens at 05:00, and from November to February at 06:00. Compare the opening time with the sunrise time for your date before you plan the morning.
Whether you actually see the sun depends on the sky. Clouds over the horizon are common enough that a spare morning is a sensible plan. The view from the rim is worth the visit in other light as well, because it covers the coast and the town below.

The Haenyeo performance near Seongsan
The performance area for the Haenyeo divers lies on Umutgae beach, at 284-34 Ilchul-ro. Taking part is included with the Seongsan admission ticket, with no extra fee for the show.
There is no fixed daily time you can count on. Performances change with the season and the weather, and rest days change too. Ask at the entrance or check the current schedule on the day you go. For the background on the divers and their museum, read the Haenyeo guide.

Good to know before you go
Four details that shape the day.
Tickets and ages
The prices above are for an individual visit in 2026. Ask at the counter which ticket applies to a child or a youth, and about group rates.
World Heritage status
Seongsan Ilchulbong is part of the natural World Heritage site Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes, inscribed in 2007. It is not a separate World Heritage site and not a cultural one.
The Udo ferry starts nearby
The crossing to Udo leaves from Seongsan and takes about 15 minutes. Many visitors pair the two in one day. See the Udo guide for fares and vehicle rules.
Plan the rest of the east
Manjanggul is the other main stop on east Jeju. The things to do page puts the cone in context with the rest of the island.
Which season suits your visit
The opening hours shape the day more than the weather does.
May to August
The long hours from 04:30 to 20:00 let you do both a sunrise visit and an evening visit. The last ticket at 19:00 leaves time for a late walk.
March, April, September and October
The site opens at 05:00 and closes at 19:00, with the last ticket at 18:00. This is the middle setting, and it suits a sunrise visit followed by breakfast in Seongsan.
November to February
The site opens at 06:00 and closes at 18:00, with the last ticket at 17:00. The day is short, so plan the cone first and the rest of the east side afterwards.
On a full-day tour
An east Jeju full-day tour from Jeju City lasts about 8.5 hours, from 09:00 to 17:30. It visits Manjanggul, Seongsan, a Haenyeo performance, Seongeup and Hueree. An English-speaking guide, the vehicle and entrance fees are included, and lunch is not. Choose the pickup point at least 2 days ahead, and read the cancellation terms on the offer you pick.
