Udo Island at a glance
Udo is a small island off the east coast of Jeju. You reach it by ferry from Seongsan, and the crossing takes about 15 minutes. Most visitors go for a day, often after seeing Seongsan Ilchulbong on the same morning. If you want an easy day without driving, Jeju east day trips cover the mainland stops, and you can add Udo on your own.
The ferry fare and the island fee are paid together. Boats normally run every 30 minutes, with extra sailings when demand is high. Weather can change the sailings, so treat the schedule as flexible.

Getting to Udo by ferry
What to know before you queue.
Ferry from Seongsan
The boat leaves from Seongsan and arrives at Cheonjin or Haumokdong, depending on how the service runs that day. Check where your return boat leaves.
ID and boarding form
Bring photo ID, because the ferry asks for it. You also need a boarding form.
Weather and timing
Wind and waves can change or cancel sailings. Check the current timetable and the time of the last boat back before you go. Do not plan a tight connection to an international flight on the same day.
Combine with Seongsan
The ferry terminal is in Seongsan, so the two fit together. See the Seongsan Ilchulbong guide for tickets and hours.
Vehicles on Udo
Restrictions for outside vehicles run from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2029.
The island limits vehicles that come from outside. This is not a ban on all cars and not a general permission for rental cars. Exceptions exist under conditions. They include low-emission rental vehicles of class 1 with electric or hydrogen drive, vehicles for people with limited mobility, and rental vehicles of guests who stay overnight on the island.
Electric drive is not a blanket permit for every scooter or small vehicle. If you plan to take a vehicle across, ask your rental company and the ferry operator which papers you need. If you do not want to deal with that, go without a vehicle. A car rental and bus guide covers the rest of Jeju.
Beaches on Udo
Three beaches are named as destinations: Geommeolle, Hagosudong and Jeju Udo Rhodolith Beach, also called Seobinbaeksa. The last one is often called Coral Beach. It is not made of coral. The sand is made of rhodoliths, which are hardened red algae.
The beach is protected as a natural monument, so leave the rhodoliths where they are. For other swimming beaches on the main island, see the Jeju beaches guide.
A day on Udo, step by step
A simple order that works with the ferry.
1. Before the crossing
Buy your ticket, fill in the boarding form and keep your ID ready. Note the time of the last boat back.
2. On the island
Choose one or two beaches and keep time in hand for the walk back to the landing. Without a vehicle you will cover less ground, so do not plan too many stops.
3. The return
Be at the landing well before the last boat. If the wind rises, sailings can change, and you do not want to be short of time.
