Planning a Jeju itinerary by area

A Jeju itinerary works best when each day stays in one area. The east holds Seongsan Ilchulbong, Udo, Manjanggul Cave and the haenyeo performance. The south and southwest hold the Seogwipo waterfalls, Jungmun and Jusangjeolli. The west is a slower coast day around Aewol and Hyeopjae. Hallasan rises in the centre and needs a day of its own.

The routes below are suggestions built from the hours and walking times on this site. They are not timetables, so add buffer time for transport. If you prefer a guided day, the Jeju day tours cover the east or the southwest in about 8.5 hours.

Day routes by area

Mix and match, one area per day.

East: Seongsan and Manjanggul

Start at Seongsan Ilchulbong, where the haenyeo performance at Umutgae beach comes with your ticket. Add Manjanggul Cave for the afternoon. Times for the performance change with the season and the weather.

Seongsan Ilchulbong โ†’

Udo

Take the ferry from Seongsan and keep the whole day for the island. A round trip costs KRW 10,500 for adults, including island fees. Bring ID for the boarding form. Vehicle rules apply from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2029.

Udo Island โ†’

South: Seogwipo

Combine Cheonjiyeon and Jeongbang with Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market. Cheonjiyeon is open until 22:00, so it suits the evening.

Waterfalls โ†’

Southwest: Jungmun and Jusangjeolli

Cheonjeyeon in Jungmun is reached by bus 600 and a walk of about 10 minutes. The 1100 Altitude Wetland and Jusangjeolli are the other stops on the guided southwest trip.

Hallasan

Keep a full day for the summit. The reservation covers the upper sections only, and the Seongpanak climb takes 4.5 hours one way, Gwaneumsa at about 5 hours.

Hallasan hike โ†’

West: Aewol and Hyeopjae

Use Aewol as a base for a slow coast day. Beaches are for swimming only in the season from 24 June to 6 September 2026. Pick an Olle section near your base with the app, which shows your position.

How many days

Suggestions, not fixed plans.

Trip lengthSuggested days
3 daysEast, south and southwest, Hallasan or Udo
4 daysEast, Udo, south and southwest, Hallasan
5 daysAdd a west coast day and an Olle section

For most first visits, 4 days work best: the east and Udo on two separate days, one day in the south and southwest, and one day for Hallasan if you can get a reservation. Book Hallasan first, because the booking opens at 09:00 on the first working day of the previous month.

Jeju itinerary: frequently asked questions

How many days do I need on Jeju?

Three days cover the east, the south and one more day. Four days add Udo or Hallasan comfortably, and five add the west coast. The table above gives suggestions.

Can I combine Udo with other sights?

The crossing is short, but sailings depend on weather and operations. Keep Udo as its own day and do not plan it on the day of an international flight.

Can I climb Hallasan on a day with other plans?

No. The climb alone is 4.5 to 5 hours one way, and the return is extra. Treat it as a full day.

Where should I stay?

Jeju City suits airport access and the Dongmun market. Seogwipo suits the south, and Aewol suits the west. See the where to stay page.

Do I need a car?

It helps for the west and for combining stops, but buses reach Hallasan and the waterfalls. A rental car needs an original International Driving Permit. See the getting around page.
